About Sandra Contreras
I started working as an employee at this ice cream store and seven years later I bought the business. It is now a family-owned business. Since early in life I always loved the business world. I take pride in what I have accomplished. I no longer must work two jobs to pay the household bills. The business takes care of that now. And El Mercado will help promote my business and attract more customers. I am proud of being a business owner together with the many Hispanic businesses on the same street. I want every business to prosper together. My vision is to open a second location.

One of the most memorable raspados is the Mangonada, a combination of sweet mango puree and ice, layered with spicy chamoy, lime juice and chile powder. It is a classic combination of sweet, sour, and spicy, which is a popular flavor profile of Mexican cuisine.

"There's an item here that is a hollowed out cucumber filed with hot sauce, chili pepper, candied tamarinds, and Japanese crunchy covered nuts. It looks like a gruesome scene out of Law & Order SVU (aka the only Law & Order that even matters) but tastes like a thousand angels singing the sweet, sweet nothings of a life well lived."

"This place is incredible! The quality of their desserts is excellent! We had a waffle, freshly made with fresh banana and strawberries slices, whip cream, it also had a little granola and chocolate sauce with a nice scoop of super yummy ice cream (I had The Milk Caramel flavor and my boyfriend had the Guava). The ice cream itself was well balance and didn't have any sort of fake flavoring. The waffle plate was a generous portion and the price was more than fair. I was expecting to spend and arm and a leg on two of those waffles plates. I will probably be coming back more often than a doctor would recommend ;) "
